Oakdale, Minn. (August 8, 1996) -- Imation Corp. (NYSE:IMN), the new imaging and information company recently spun-off from 3M, today announced an agreement to integrate the Realist print engine developed by Iris Graphics, a Scitex company, as a component in its new, large format (A2) digital proofing system. The new digital proofing system will be marketed by Imation and is expected to be available during the first quarter of 1997. Imation will announce details of its new proofing solution at the Seybold Conference and Exhibition on September 11, 1996, in San Francisco. "Our adoption of the Realist print engine reflects our strategy of forming alliances with companies that will help Imation fulfill our promise to be the best source of information and imaging solutions worldwide," said Chuck Oesterlein, vice president of ImationÆs Printing and Publishing Systems unit. "We believe that customers in the graphic arts industry will see the benefit of this alliance as we combine our 30 years of experience in color science with Scitex's expertise in hardware development. According to Shimon Alon, President of Scitex Graphic Arts Group, "Scitex considers the selection of our Realist by a company as dynamic and innovative as Imation to be further endorsement of a product that has taken the industry by storm." Imation was created in July 1996 from the spin-off by 3M of its Printing and Publishing Systems, Medical Imaging and Photo Color Systems, Data Storage Products, Customer Support Technology and Document Imaging operations. By integrating these related operations, Imation will leverage the natural synergies between all product development, manufacturing and distribution operations to create new market opportunities through shared technologies.
